Southeast Connection for Sport Culture & Recreation District is an amalgamation of:
From 1996 - 2001 the Board of Directors and Staff of the above organizations took an in-depth look at how they could create an partnership between sport, culture and recreation programs and services in the southeast therefore alleviating duplication. In 1999 the three Global Organizations of SaskCulture, Sask Sport and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association allowed a provincial pilot formation of Southeast Saskatchewan Association for Culture, Recreation and Sport Inc.. In March of 2003 the pilot project was complete as the association was added to the Minister's Eligibitility list. South East Saskatchewan Association for Culture, Recreation and Sport became one organization funded by the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund - not four seperate entities. Offices were located in Glenavon, Weyburn and Estevan. The Board of Directors consisted of 12 volunteer representatives across the southeast, some from their previous organizations, sat on the new association Board. In 2007 the Global organizations made it mandatory for all of the province to amalgamate just as the southeast had. Therefore, in 2008 due to funding requirements, S.E.S.A.C.R.S. had to change their name to Southeast Connection for Sport, Culture and Recreation District Inc. Currently the head office is in Glenavon and satellite offices in Weyburn and Oxbow and 3 full-time staff are employed with the District. |
