Active After School Project

Several data sources suggest that children and youth are spending a lot of their after school time participating in sedentary activities (motorized transportation, watching TV, computer, video games). The after school time period (3 to 6 p.m.) is a window of opportunity for children and youth to engage in physical activity pursuits.

Southeast Connection is excited to embark on a new initiative, Active After School Project, to increase the capacity of south east communities to offer physical activity after school programming for children ages 6 – 12 years. The aim of the initiative is to:

  1. Build leadership capacity for quality after school program delivery
  2. Equip after school service providers with access to after school programming resources and tools
  3. Increase school – community partnerships and joint use agreements
  4. Increase physical activity opportunities for children ages 6 – 12 years during the critical after school hours, at least three (3) days per week

Southeast Connection will support pilot sites with training, funding, information and resources to offer after school programming with a physical activity component. Click on the links below to learn more!

Southeast Connection is pleased to anounce the five selected host sites are:

  • The Town of Moosomin Parks and Recreation
  • Kipling and District Parks and REcration

Training will be taking place in January with all the projects to start in February.
